- Lived in Kentucky and Iowa before moving to Chicago where he was a prominent Attorney with the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Rail Road. He was president of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad from 1873-1874, then headquartered in Boston, MA. Established the Henry Strong Educational Foundation to help deserving college students.
- Owned extensive properties including the Republic Building in Chicago and others in several other states. Maintained homes in Montecito, CA, Lake Geneva, WI, and in Chicago during his latter life.
