- He came to America in early life, but soon returned to his native land and remained there until 1848, when he again crossed the ocean and located in Galena. He bought a farm in Gulford, which he operated until old age required his retirement, when he moved to town and he was for several years tender of the Spring Street drawbridge In 1890, he and his wife went to Dubuque to end their days at the home of their son Richard.
