Baldry - The surname Baldry is from the Germanic personal name. It would have been present as Baldric and possibly Bealdric. It is composed of the elements bald - bold, brave; plus the suffix ric - power. The name was reintroduced by the Normans as Baldri or Baudri and it is from these forms that the surname is derived. The name is now found chiefly in East Anglia, in England.
John and Orilla (Everts) Baldry were the ancestors to which this Baldry genealogy and family history owes its genesis. John, who immigrated from England and settled in Canada and his wife Orilla (Everts) who was born in Canada, had several children. James, of whom this genealogy is written, married Rachel (Pernie); Samuel, who married Georgina (Mann) then Sara (York); and Lucinda, who married Michael Murdock. James was the first Baldry of this lineage to emigrate to America. Emigrating from Canada with his wife Rachel and his two eldest children, John and Elizabeth, in 1883. James and Rachel first stopped in Michigan, probably in Ionia County, then almost immediately relocated in Groton area of Brown Country, South Dakota. The other Baldry's migrated in Canada settling in Alberta and other western parts of Canada.
Although some of the descendants of Samuel and Lucinda Baldry eventually settled in the United States this genealogy details the descendants of James Baldry the first and main immigrant to America. Many descendants of John and Orilla Baldry have kept in touch and periodically meet for family reunions, the last know of which was in June of 1991 in Alberta, Canada. Apparently some sort of genealogy of John and Orilla Baldry's family has been written for these events and most likely can be obtained from Janet McIver (fourth generation descendant of Samuel Baldry) last known to be at 411 Wellington Cres., Dauphin, Manitoba, Canada.
