Were Jamesons Freed from Taxation? - An Analysis

There has long been a legend amongst some Jam?son families that their earliest Ulster Jam?son ancestor was "freed from taxation throughout the domain," (or some similar admonition), for having participated in the Battle of Boyne in 1690. In our case that was referenced for a William Jameson, in 1689-1690[1] and most likely for his efforts during the siege of Londonderry.

The problem with this is that we believe our oldest Ulster ancestor was an Alexander Jameson and not William Jameson, although it is possible that a William may have somehow been related with our family, back in Ireland, or Scotland before that. Nevertheless, we can find no actual proof or reference to this. Furthermore, although this claim can be found similarly attached to many others of that time and place, there is no records of that for them either. If fact, we can not find any records of this for anyone of that time and place.
