404 John Jameson was one of the first blacksmiths in town. His father Thomas Jameson, brother of Hugh, settled on land east of the town pound known for years as the Ryder place. John Jameson married the first child born in this town, Sarah Mills, and was a prominent townsman. He became famous as a manufacturer of axes. His products were found in Hampton in 1875. 406 John was an accomplished and respected investment counselor. He graduated from Harvard Graduate School of Business in 1926 and was a director of the New Hampshire OPA (Office of Price Administration) during World War II. After the war, he was an administrator with the newly created AUI (Associated Universities, Inc.), a consortium of Nuclear Research Laboratories (mostly universities) at a time when it was responsible for building the Brookhaven National Laboratory. After he retired in the early 1950s, he became a charter member with the Arizona-Senora Dessert Museum, where he was president and life long spokesperson for this organization.
