  Lived at Mattituck, Suffolk Co., L.I., NY Although there is no confusion with this David Howell's existence, his parents (and ancestry) or that of his children and their names, there is some question about his wife(s). Both as to the number and to their names. David is known to have at least two wives, Abigail and Mary. The birth dates of his children however, both approximate and exact, suggest three wives with some researchers saying four. David is known to have married an Abigail, widow of Jacob Conklin in about 1718/1719. However all of David's known named children were born before this date suggesting a previous wife. Abigail is known to have died in 1726. It is then known that "David Howells wife Marry died on 22 Dec 1742 ...in her 66th year..." suggesting he remarried after Abigail had died. It is also known that David is buried beside his wife Mary at Mattituck. Some researchers, including Larry McCurdy and Ronald Howell have the first wife as Mary Parshall, the second wife as Abigail Chase and at least Mary E. Wheelock has David's third wife as Lydia Holdridge. Other research shows a combination of these and more. I have chosen to list the wives (as seen here) as those listed by Tom Donnelly in his research. His work was done after most of the others and has the considered benefit of reflection on that.
