- Enlisted 31 Oct 1861 Co. C., 32d Reg't Mass. Inf. and served three years. Returned home and found that his wife had died a week before his arrival. He re-enlisted 5 Jan 1864 as a Sergeant in Co. C., 32d Reg't Mass. Inf. He was taken prisoner and died in a Confederate prison at Salisbury, NC 21 Aug 1864.
- After the death of his mother Daniel was legally adopted by a Mr. Sargent of Boston, MA., whose name he took and afterward was known as Daniel Jameson Davis Sargent. His military record would most likely be found under that name.
