Re-enlisted 14 Jan 1864 at Pulaski, Tenn, assigned to 5th Reg't Iowa Veteran Volunteers, re-assigned to Co. C. Brackett's Battalion Minnesota Cavalry, the Northwest Indian Expeditions under the command of General Sully. Wounded at the Battle of Killdeer Mountain 28 Jul 1864. Promoted to Corporal 1 Jan 1865. Murdered by a small band of Cut-Head Yanktonais Indians at the camp opposite Fort Rice, Dakota Territory (ND) 27 Aug 1865.
