Although Eliza Bingham lists her husband's date of death as June 26, 1880 in a Declaration for a Widow's pension in July of 1890, George was listed as quite alive in the 1880 Federal Census (IL - JoDaviess - Guilford Twp). 1883 is the date noted in the "History of the 96th Regiment, Illinois - Recruits to Company A" - pp.699, thought to be more accurate and without a widows prejudice.
