His sentence was commuted on December 27, 1870. He was described as "Intemperate". This is assumed to be the correct William as he was the right age, the correct place of birth, recently (May 22, 1866) released from the Army and above all, entered on his prison record, under Marks: "Little finger on left hand crooked".

  	William Jamison Record of Death The date of birth on this Death Record is listed as 1834, not the 1843 thought to be this William Jamison's birth date. However this same Death Record has the age at death as 63 years, which would compute from the date of death as born in 1843 as expected. It is thought that who ever created this Death Record most likely incorrectly transposed the numbers "4" and "3" creating an unfortunate and misleading mistake.   Notes	There seems to be no trace of William or Jane Jameson, apart from the record of their 1851 arrival in Philadelphia. The only records of this family in America, appear to be in the 1860 Federal Census where returns exist for teenage sons, Jonathan, William and Alexander, all living north of Pittsburgh, in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, each in separate households with other families. This suggests the parents are no longer around, possibly having died.
