Determining the facts of this particular David Wright is made somewhat difficult by the fact there is more than one David Wright with Revolutionary War service from Pennsylvania at about the same time, especially a David Wright (LT.) mentioned in the old Bedford documents who was in this David Wright's brother's (Lt. Aaron Wright) company in 1777-1778.
Fortunately this David Wright applied for a Revolutionary War Pension on October 29, 1832, at age 82, from Fairfield County, Ohio. These pension papers are retained in the National Archives under NARA Publication #M804, Pension#S49261. The PDF file, including a transcription, can be found here.
Briefly Summarized: David Wright served during the Revolutionary War as a Private in Captain Robert Cluggage Company with Lieutenant Richard Brown in the First Pennsylvania Rifle Regiment commanded by Colonel Edward Hand. He enlisted for one year on June 29, 1775 in Bedford county Pennsylvania, which collected together at Carlisle, Pennsylvania. During this year part of the Regiment laid on Prospect Hill, near Boston in Massachusetts. When the British evacuated Boston, the Regiment was marched to New York and stayed there about two weeks. The Regiment then crafted over to Long Island where it remained and where he served out his year and where he received a discharge from Colonel Hand. He then served, for two months, as a guard to some continental wagons which were engaged in carrying military stores to Pittsburgh - which service he performed and received a discharge from his Captain in command Abraham Cable. He also served as a scout on the frontier during the Revolutionary War, which his memory recalled as in all about three weeks.
In addition, it is noted: Also in Captain James Wells' army unit; and per G. Eldon Wright: He was in Fort Pitt the summer of 1777.
