Determining the facts of this particular Daniel Jameson's military service is made somewhat difficult by the fact there is so little information available, particukarly regarding the War of 1812.
We first find mention of Daniel Jameson's military involvement in official payroll records for service in Elias Streeter's Company, Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis' Regiment, of the New York Militia, for 12 days service in June and July of 1812, during the War of 1812.[1] He may have been living in western New York state by then, of what was at that time Genesee county, and as such, a member of a local militia. Or, he may have enlisted directly having come here for that purpose from New Hampshire where he had been known to be living in 1810.[2]
Daniel, along with many others from that area, served in the New York State 77th Infantry during the war. He first marched to Batavia, New York, where he was mustered into service. They then marched to Buffalo, New York and then back again to Batavia where Corporal Daniel Jameson was discharged, July 10, 1812.
Following his service in the war Daniel lived in Riga, New York and remained in the New York State militia for many years, at least until 1822, where he rose through the ranks, eventually reaching that of Captain.
He can be found in the New York State, 77th Militia in 1816.[3]
Then again in 1819 in the New Your state Militia - now called the 177th, as a Lieutenant.[4]
By 1821 he was a Captain in the 177th,[5] apparently just recently promoted.[6]
And finally in 1822, the 177th, now Monroe County, New York.[7]
There was a application made for a bounty land grant by the children of Daniel Jameson. Martha Jane (Jameson) Ludden and her sister Annis Ann (Jameson) Lovejoy made a request for 160 acres of unspecified land in a grant request in 1873. It is unclear if this was successful.[8]
