Which Hugh(s) served in the War of 1812

There are two Hugh Jamesons (sort of) in Ancestry's War of 1812 index of Soldiers. "Sort of," because both of these were spelled differently (common in these old military records).
One of these Hugh's was spelled "Jamerson." We know who this is, because the personal military records for "Hugh Jamerson" match up exactly with Hugh Jameson (1786-1870).
However, we don't yet know who the other (sort of) Hugh Jameson is. This other "sort-of" is actually listed as Hugh "Jemison," which we believe is also a misspelling, because there were no known Hugh Jemisons in that area at that time. He served as a Private in Davis' Regiment, New York Militia. This Hugh also had a Land Grand award (#21696).
There were four Hugh Jamesons (all our family) that we know of, in all of New York State at the time of the war (1812-1815). One of which (see above) is positively identified as the Hugh Jamerson, War of 1812 soldier, leaving the other (sort of) Hugh Jemison amongst the available remaining three known Hugh Jamesons.
Hugh Jameson 1786-1835 |
Brother to Daniel Jameson (known 1812 soldier) Both living fairly close to each other in upstate NY. | Likely candidate as the unknown Hugh served in Davis's regiment as did brother Daniel Jameson. |
Hugh Jameson 1764-1814 |
Brother to Alexander Jameson, and Daniel Jameson's uncle and father of Samuel Jameson (known 1812 soldier). Lived an hour east of Daniel Jameson | At age 48 an unlikely candidate. Also more likely to have joined same regiment as son Samuel Jameson (Cap Clark's Co.) |
Hugh Jameson 1795-1864 |
Son of above Hugh Jameson and younger brother to Samuel Jameson (known 1812 soldier) | At age 17 a less likely candidate. Also more likely to have joined same regiment as son Samuel Jameson (Capt Clark's Co.) |
This other Hugh Jameson (Jemison) was also apparently awarded a Land Grant, as had the Hugh Jameson we already know about. This Jemison Land Grant was number 21696. We have found no record of a pension for the Hugh Jemison soldier.
Possibly complicating matters further, there is a Hugh Jameson, listed as Ensign, 7th regiment of Infantry in the 1821 Stuben Co., NY Militia. It is unclear as to who this High Jameson may have been and/or if he saw service in the War of 1812.
